Laringa castelnaui castelnaui (C. & R. Felder)

Rare and restricted to mid elevation in Raub. The insect display sexual dimorphism whereby males and females are marked differently: the uppersides of the males are completely blue while the female is brown with darker brown striaes.

This female was seen visiting a small tree on 09 June 2013 @ 12:15. The blue male was observed in the same vicinity but was not succesfully photographed.

The cobalt blue male is a butterfly of unusual beauty...


Above pictures 03 July 2016 @ 12:30. They are normally found at mid elevation but this male came to lower elevation along a deeply wooded forest trail.
