The Wizard, Rhinopalpa polynice eudoxia (Guérin-Méneville)

This rather uncommon butterfly has a very dark brown-black and cryptic undersides with unusually angled edges, making it instantly identifiable. It is only found in well wooded vicinities.

 Its undersides is almost light-absorbing as the built-in flash was unable to bring out the details...

A slave flash brings out the rich details: the wing margins are lined with ocelli and there are wavy metallic bands that fan out from the base of the wings horizontally.
